The Open Water Diver course is your key to access the 70% of the planet that most people never get to see. It is a fun and rewarding experience, especially when you are lucky enough to complete it in such a wonderful place as Dahab. As an Open Water Diver you really can “go places, meet people and fo things underwater”.
You can complete the Open Water Course in 3-4 days depending on your level of advancement and personal skill set underwater. You will start with theory either online or in the classroom by watching a DVD and studying the comprehensive manual that accompanies the course. This will end with five quizzes, knowledge reviews and a final exam. Don’t worry – it’s not as scary as it sounds!
Confined dives (five dives): Your instructor will teach you all the practical skills you will need as a diver in a safe confined water area. They will demonstrate each skill after thoroughly explaining it in briefings before the water sessions. For example, you will learn how to assemble and dis-assemble your equipment properly and all necessary safety, breathing and buoyancy skills.
Open water dives (4 dives): Once you have mastered the skills in confined water your instructor will move you to the open water where you will complete 4 dives. During these dives you will revisit the skills you learnt in the confined water area while taking in the wonders of the underwater world around you.
Once you complete the Open Water Diver course you will be qualified to dive to 18m independently with another certified diver of at least Open Water Diver level anywhere in the world (except for 10 to 14 year olds who will receive a Junior Open Water Diver certification). Young people who receive the Junior Open Water Diver certification can upgrade this to the full Open Water Diver certification at no charge once they reach their 15th birthday.
